Short, late night post

Just got done playing with food in the kitchen and don't feel up to writing much, but today I finally downloaded pictures from my phone so I thought I would put some up here. Things have been a little nuts around here lately as Emmett has not been wanting to go to sleep for nap or at night. I have taken to just laying in the room with him as he plays and then finally he gives up and falls asleep. The playing takes about an hour, though, so that is not too fun.

The plus side of the lack of sleep is that it makes Emmett a little crazy. The other night he started spinning around in circles, making himself dizzy, in the kitchen. He did this twice and each time he would spin, get himself good and dizzy, and then start semi-crying saying "the house is falling down"

The first two images are from an episode in the room where he finally gave up and fell asleep on the floor. The next is from Emmett playing in the sand/water at the park (fun clean-up for me) and the last is from the Exploratorium when he found a rainbow on the ground and wanted to lay in it.

Weekend Fun

We spent the long weekend up in Mi-Wuk, CA at Augie's fam's cabin. In attendance were Augie and Ethan, both their sets of parents, and the three of us. The weather was beautiful and it was a lot of fun for all of us. Emmett had some trouble sleeping up there as there was so much fun to be had that he never wanted to sleep, but other than that he was great. We were there Friday to Monday and he had one tiny accident (#2, which he stopped and was able to finish in the toilet). We had brought along the potty for him to use, but right after our arrival he used the adult one and used it exclusively. He has to be held when he sits on it (he is still pretty small), but he didn't seem to mind it at all. He stopped play a couple of times to get either Andrea or I to take him to the bathroom, so he really seems to be getting this. It is such a relief to be able to go places and not feel worried that he is going to forget or just have an accident. I am sure there will be times where he has trouble, but it is really nice how it is going now.

Today was our first day back and Emmett got right back on a nap schedule, so it seems that he didn't get thrown too far out of whack by the weekend. He got to watch his first television where he wasn't sick (putting in a movie made it so the adults all got to eat dinner together---I can now see why parents use movies so much and how easy it would be to use it all of the time). I know I am sensitive about it, but it was troubling to see the blank look go over the kids' faces and their mouths fall open while watching---but eating in peace was pretty nice.

We rented a patio boat for part of one morning on a local reservoir, went on a short hike, visited another smaller reservoir, and ate a lot. I think that we took quite a few pictures, but I don't know where the camera is so they will have to be put up another time.

I also got to have my first very uncomfortable moment with Emmett's new-found language abilities. We all had gone to Columbia to spend the morning and Emmett and I were off climbing on a 19th-century wagon. There was no one else around while we were climbing, and while seated on the wagon a rather large gentleman tourist was walking by. Emmett stood up, pointed at the gentleman, and started to yell "boobies" again and again. He had never paid any attention to breasts before and perhaps was surprised that they sometimes show up on men, but I could not get him to stop. The man didn't look up, so I am hoping that either he didn't notice, didn't understand, or didn't care. Fun times.
